If you have upgraded from Windows 7 or 8.1 to Windows 10 and want to remove Windows10. No need to format disk and re-install the older version. Here is a quick tutorial to downgrade from Win10 in a few clicks.
Microsoft has announced Windows 10 consumer technical preview in order to make a better user interaction before final release of Microsoft Windows 10.
Windows10 technical preview is absolutely free to download and use for almost half year. The users of Win 7,8 and 8.1 can upgrade to Windows 10 during installation, by choosing upgrade to new version.
But after giving a try to latest version, if somebody wants to downgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 8.1, 8 or 7; it doesn’t work as smooth as it supposed to do. There is no option in Add/Remove programs to uninstall Win10, as somebody can expect.
Here is what Microsoft told about downgrade process from 10 to older versions:
“If you want to stop using Windows Technical Preview and return to your previous version of Windows, you’ll need to reinstall your previous version from the recovery or installation media that came with your PC—typically a DVD. If you don’t have recovery media, you might be able to create recovery media from a recovery partition on your PC using software provided by your PC manufacturer. You’ll need to do this before you upgrade. After you install Windows Technical Preview, you won’t be able to use the recovery partition on your PC to go back to your previous version of Windows”
But no need to worry about what Microsoft said. You still have an easy and hassle-free method that will allow to downgrade in a few clicks from Windows Update. Time to take action!
- Open Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Programs and Features.
- Click on View Installed Updates.
- In the list of installed updates, find Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2990214) and Uninstall it.
Restart computer to apply changes.
This method only works for upgraded Windows 10 from Windows 8.1, 8 or 7. If you have a fresh installation (by using DVD or burning ISO image of Windows 10 to flash drive), this method will not work as the disk is formatted during fresh installation.
