Xiaomi has announced that they are set to release Windows 10 update for Mi 4 smartphone. This optional update for Windows 10 will be released on Thursday, December 3. Lin Bin, Xiaomi’s co-founder and president, posted a picture on Chinese social network Weibo, which indicated that a Windows 10 upgrade for the mobile will soon be published.
The statement comes nine months after Microsoft partnered together with the Chinese technology conglomerate Windows 10 for smartphones.
Microsoft’s Windows 10 Mobile OS was limited to Lumia 950 and 950 XL. Mi 4 is currently running on Android Lollipop with Mi UI 7. For those who would like to have Windows 10 OS, can upgrade the mobile OS by installing this update.
In March, to the sidelines of the release date announcement of Windows 10, Microsoft also stated that it had partnered to beta test Windows 10 for cellphones. At that time, the organization stated that it will be examining Windows 10 with few of the Xiaomi Mi 4 power users in China.
As its mobile manufacturing efforts are belittled by Microsoft, the aforementioned venture was supposed as a means for the organization to get more visitors to try its mobile OS. Now, we have no idea how successful this program has been for the two firms. However a public launch of Windows 10 Mobile for Mi 4 handsets does appear to be a positive move, and we could expect more ROMs to be released to other Xiaomi mobiles.
As of now, Windows 10 update for Mi 4 and the Mi Pad 2 has been confirmed officially. Many of the Mi users are expecting that the Mi Pro could also get this Windows 10 update which is yet to be revealed.
Since its been more than a year, small recap of the specs. Mi 4 runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 Quad-core processor without the 64-bit support for applications. It has 3GB RAM and 64GB internal storage space with a 13-megapixel on the rear and 8-megapixel front camera.
Mi 4 also has a 5-inch Full High Definition screen as well as a 3,080mAh battery which is rather large for a mobile of its type.
